Basil and Lydia

Oh, the world goes ‘round on Basil’s hometown,
And the crowd bows down to honor the crown,
But he won’t fall down ‘til his lover comes ‘round,
And the Lord watches ladies and lords, oh!
Yes, He watches His ladies and lords, oh!
Yes, He watches his ladies and lords.

Oh, the world spins ‘round ‘top Lydia’s crown,
For her love goes ‘round and out on the town,
And he eats and he drinks until he falls down,
And the Lord watches ladies and lords, oh!
Yes, He laughs at His ladies and lords, oh!
Yes, He watches his ladies and lords.

Oh, the world falls down on Basil the clown,
for his lass did drown and sink in the ground.
Lyd-ia heard of the gowns he sought ‘round the town,
And he cries for his lady, ‘Oh, Lord, Oh!’
The Lord prays for the clown’s weary soul, oh!
As He watches his ladies and lords.
